Marlborough Wine Country

Craig:

Whenever I think of wine, I am reminded of a Mitch Hedberg comedy bit that goes something like this....I saw a wino eating grapes and I said...dude, you have to wait.

Although Bridget and I really don't fall into the "wino" category, we still enjoy a good bottle from time to time.  If you were involved in a conversation about New Zealand wine, you would undoubtedly hear the the region Marlborough come up sometime in the conversation.  Marlborough is very similar to Napa Valley.  A small valley situated in between two mountain ranges with plenty of sunlight.  These great conditions create excellent growing conditions for Marlborough's most recognized variety of grape, Sauvignon Blanc.  Bridget and I tasted three different ones throughout the day and determined that Cloudy Bay had the best.

The runners up were wines from Alan Scott Vineyards and St. Clair Family Estate.  If you are interested in buying a good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, Cloudy Bay wines are widely distributed in the U.S.  It will be a huge hit at your next dinner party.

It should be noted that the Pinot Noir from St. Clair Family Estate is remarkable.  It helped me get through this post.  Cheers!

Next stop: Wellington
